Being in our 90’s we remember these blankets well and do not like duvets. They are so warm and just suits us well. In addition we thought the packaging was very good. Hightly recommended.

A Touch of Tradition

The traditional Atkincel blanket is woven from 100% pure new wool and features an open, cell-like structure, providing warmth at a light weight. Perfect for layering on the bed or as a lighter alternative to the duvet in the warmer months, the Atkincel can be used all year round. Bound on all four edges in satin trim, the Atkincel is available in 4 traditional colours, with sizes ranging from single to super king.

A Better Night's Sleep

We carefully select only the best quality pure new wool for our Atkincel blankets. The unique structure of wool has many inherent properties that cannot be replicated by any other natural or manmade fibre. Wool is sustainable and biodegradable, as well as being highly durable, flame retardant, anti-static, hypoallergenic and temperature regulating. Many studies have revealed the positive benefits of wool, with researchers at the University of Sydney reporting that sleeping on or under wool can result in a 25% better sleep.

A Rich Heritage

John Atkinson has a long and impressive history of manufacturing England’s finest blankets. Our story began in Sowerby Bridge in 1828 when John Atkinson & Sons started weaving high quality wool blankets before the reign of Queen Victoria. The John Atkinson brand was later acquired by Wormalds & Walkers of Dewsbury, who also manufactured the historical Hudson’s Bay Point Blanket and in 1983 Hainsworth bought Wormalds & Walkers, moving production to the mill in Pudsey, West Yorkshire, where it remains today.
